Luxury Homes, Life Changes and Financial Planning

For many families, the home is the biggest asset in the relationship. With greater than 50% of American marriages ending in divorce, that largest asset can become the largest point of conflict during the settlement of the estate.

As part of their ongoing commitment to education, members of the Luxury Home Marketing Group took on this topic during their April board meeting. Board members questioned guest speaker Bob Watral of American Financial of Raleigh. Watral’s organization helps people and families with financial planning, including planning for the possibility of divorce.

The Luxury Home Marketing Group’s members represent homes in the $750,000 and up spectrum of the community in Raleigh, Wake County and the greater Triangle-area. Watral’s advice included details about how divorce can impact this specialty-end of the real estate market.

A recent Chicago Tribune article discussesd the financial, and emotional toll divorce brings to home sales. From the article:

In many divorces, “listing the home becomes another huge symbol of their losses,” said Deborah Innocenti, a Keller Williams agent in Ridgewood, N.J.
